Stockton Man Accused Of Killing Grandfather, Sacramento Homeless Man

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A Stockton man described what he says lead to the murder of his grandfather and a homeless man behind a Denny's in Sacramento.

Richard Robinson, 25, is accused of murdering Kirby Robinson, 87, and a homeless man this week.

It started early Thursday morning at a home on Turtle Valley Circle in Stockton where Kirby Robinson was found stabbed to death. Later that morning, the homeless man was found in a Denny's parking lot on Howe Avenue in Sacramento.

Richard Robinson walked from his Sacramento County Jail cell with a face that was emotionless and undisturbed. He blankly stared through a glass window as he explained what he did on Thursday morning, starting in his grandfather's home.

"I just broke in, ran to where he was at and he got up and I wanted to steal some things," he said.

Robinson says he wasn't planning to kill his grandfather, but that changed as soon as he walked inside.

Why did he do it?

"Just cause I wanted to, I guess," he said.

After Robinson stabbed his grandfather multiple times and left him for dead in the front yard, Robinson admits stealing his car and headed to Sacramento.

Robinson stopped at the Denny's on Howe Avenue to grab a meal.

"Just walked around, seen the guy sitting there he was drinking a beer, kinda got the idea to stab him," he said.

That second victim was a 44-year-old man.

"Just walked around Denny's grabbed my things, went to the restroom, washed my hands," he said.

Robinson says he felt "euphoric" after the double homicide. He admits to using meth and marijuana in the days leading up to Thursday's brutal attack.

Robinson says he was diagnosed with schizophrenia four years ago, but never took any medication.

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies caught up with Robinson on Thursday evening and arrested him.
