Marathon Standoff With Stockton Homicide Suspect Ends

STOCKTON (CBS13) – Officers were seen taking into custody a suspect from a Stockton house early Friday afternoon, ending a nearly 15-hour standoff.

Both the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Department and the Stockton Police Department were at the scene along Picardy Drive. The sheriff's office says they got reports that the suspect was not going to give himself up alive.

Authorities later identified that they had cornered Joseph DiBartolomeo, a suspect wanted for a Oct. 11, 2013 murder in Acampo - the shooting and killing of Kristopher Hoyt during a marijuana grow robbery along the 118000 block of Peltier Road. The other suspects in the incident have been arrested, the sheriff's department says.

Late Friday morning, a police vehicle was seen breaking down the front portion of a house. Les Garcia with the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Department says the process is a part of a new strategy to peel away the comfort of someone who is hiding inside a home.

DiBartolomeo was seen being taken into custody just after 2 p.m. Friday. He was said to have been hiding in a crawlspace of the home.

Neighbors say that officers were at the scene since about 11:30 p.m. Thursday.
