Stockton Asparagus Festival Opening Night Canceled After Strong Storm

STOCKTON (CBS13) — The Stockton Asparagus Festival canceled its opening day after a storm blew through on Friday with heavy rains and wind.

The festival will continue as usual this weekend after the storm has moved through the area.

High winds on Friday afternoon sent a canopy flying up and over a fence surrounding the event, underscoring the potentially dangerous conditions on Friday.

Lightning and thunder were out in the area at around 3:30 p.m. on Friday, forcing the cancellation to the disappointment of festivalgoers.

On the plus side, there will likely be plenty of asparagus-themed foods to go around this weekend as the festival is now one day shorter.
