States' Insurance Departments Investigating Anthem Data Breach

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - Insurance departments in several states plan to lead an investigation into the recent data breach at Anthem.

The New Hampshire Insurance Department said Thursday that it will work with insurance departments in other states that also have significant Anthem business, including Indiana, California, Missouri and Maine.

Anthem said last week that hackers stole names, Social Security numbers and other sensitive information for up to 80 million customers in a breach that was first detected on Jan. 27.

Since the announcement, members of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners have been calling for a multi-state examination of Anthem. The association expects all states to sign on.
