1 dead, 4 seriously injured in head-on collision near Oakdale, officials say
One person died and four others were seriously injured in a head-on crash Thursday afternoon in California's Central Valley, officials said.
The California Highway Patrol's Modesto office said officers received the call at 2:56 p.m. regarding a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of State Route 108 and Kennedy Road, just northeast of the cities of Modesto and Oakdale in Stanislaus County.
A gray Subaru Legacy and a white Tesla collided head-on and came to rest off the roadway, investigators said.
Among the people involved in the crash were four occupants of the white Tesla and a 48-year-old woman from Oakdale driving the Subaru. The Subaru driver was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said on Friday. Her identification has not been released.
The four people, whose ages range from 24 to 28 years old, in the Tesla suffered major injuries.
Authorities said it appears the Subaru was heading west on Highway 108 when the driver crossed over the double yellow lines for unknown reasons and crashed head-on into the Tesla.
It's unknown at this time if DUI was a factor in the crash. The highway was temporarily closed for the investigation.
