Spring Storm Brings Thunderstorms, Funnel Clouds To Sacramento, Welcome Snow To Sierra

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A spring storm brought heavy rain, thunderstorms and even a funnel cloud ot the video, while the mountains saw a welcome snow following a bleak snow survey.

The drought have been tough on wineries, but Tuesday's severe weather added to the woes. Pea-sized hail ripped up fines at Fields Family Wines in Lodi, where the owner describes the damage as moderate to severe.

In Amy Grano's Vacaville backyard, hail was falling fast. What blanketed her backyard in white soon melted, but she showed us what was still left over in the front yard three hours later.

"Crazy, because I was like, oh my gosh it's coming down! Because I haven't seen that since 2009," she said.

For others, in Sacramento, the focus was on ominous funnel clouds forming in the afternoon. Nearly half a dozen reports of funnel clouds were made on Tuesday afternoon.

Steve Robinson-Burmester grabbed his camera, watching out the window from his work on Florin Road.

"I just saw this funnel cloud just move down like slicing straight down diagonally, and I called everyone, hey, c'mon take a look," he said.

Fortunately, none of the funnel clouds touched down.

In the Sierra, the knee-level snow that fell in Nyack was a welcome sight, but the severity of the drought drought has businesses thinking it won't end up amounting to much.

Snow plows stayed busy on the roads as snow brought business to the Nyack Shell gas station.

Snowboarders and skiers hit the slopes at Boreal for most likely the last time this season. Some made their way up as a last-minute change in spring break plans.

Meanwhile, Moody Bistro Bar and Beats in Truckee welcomed the April snowfall and some extra customers.

The snow comes a week after Gov. Jerry Brown declared a drought emergency and demanded a 25 percent cut in water use after a snow survey with no snow to be seen.
