Spencer Stone's Father 1 of 3 Indicted In Fire Insurance Fraud Case

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Three men, including the father of hometown hero Spencer Stone, have been indicted for their alleged part in an arson fraud scheme.

Sacramento residents Jamal M. Shehadeh, 57, and Saber A. Shehadeh, 73, and Elk Grove resident Brian Stone, 57, were arraigned on Friday.

Several businesses owned by Jamal Shehadeh burned between 2009 and 2013. The indictment states he and others worked to get insurance policies that covered fire damage, then set fire to the buildings.

The indictment covers seven fires:

  • Dec. 27, 2009 - 1007 E St. and 427 10th St., Sacramento
  • June 9, 2010 - 511 Broadway, Sacramento
  • Aug. 15, 2010 - 427 10th St., Sacramento
  • April 23, 2012 - 6964 65th St., Sacramento
  • Sept. 24, 2012 - 5725 Marconi Ave., Carmichael
  • Oct. 15, 2012 - 910 University Ave., Sacramento
  • June 16, 2013 - 2764 Fulton Ave., Sacramento

Investigators allege Stone provided consultant services and helped with the fraudulent insurance claims.

Jamal Shehadeh was charged with seven counts of arson, 52 counts of mail and wire fraud and one count of money laundering.

Brian Stone was charged with 13 counts of mail fraud or wire fraud.

Saber Shehadeh was charged with three counts of mail fraud.

Brian Stone is the father of Spencer Stone, one of three men who stopped a terrorist attack on a Paris-bound train in August. At the time, Brian spoke to CBS13 and applauded his son's bravery.

CBS13 made attempts to reach Brian Stone's attorney Friday night but those calls were not answered or returned.
