Southern California Doc Sentenced For Illegal Prescriptions

RANCHO PALOS VERDES, Calif. (AP) -A Southern California physician who illegally prescribed powerful painkillers has been sentenced to three years in jail.

Richard Kim of Rancho Palos Verde was sentenced Friday on 17 felony counts. He was convicted last week.

Los Angeles County prosecutors say Kim wrote prescriptions for Norco, Xanax, Soma and Adderall without performing physical exams, taking vital signs or filling out medical charts.

Patients were only asked to produce X-rays or prior medical charts.

In one case, an undercover agent was given a prescription after bringing in an X-ray of a dog.
