Southern California Brush Fire Grows to 30 Acres

TEMECULA, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a brush fire has burned 30 acres near Temecula in Southern California, forcing the closure of the southbound I-15 freeway.

The Riverside County Fire Department says the fire broke out south of the freeway shortly before noon on Saturday.

Authorities say no homes were immediately threatened.

More than 200 firefighters were sent to the blaze, while a helicopter attacked the flames from above.

The fire sent thick, billowing smoke across the sky in the suburban area southeast of Los Angeles.

The inland region is facing a weekend heat wave with temperatures that could reach the triple digits.
