South Lake Tahoe Fire Captain Accused Of Possessing Child Porn Resigns

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. (AP) - South Lake Tahoe city officials say a fire captain in federal custody on child pornography charges has resigned.

The city said in a statement that Capt. Mark Wygant resigned on Wednesday and no longer is on the city payroll.

Wygant was arrested Jan. 29 after federal agents say they found a flash drive at the South Lake Tahoe fire station with more than 5,000 images of child pornography they believe belonged to Wygant.

FBI special agent Glenn Norling said in an affidavit the photos on the flash drive date from March 2011 to December 2014.

Wygant appeared in federal court in Sacramento on Friday but did not enter a plea to a charge of receipt of child pornography. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 13.
