Sonny Gray Finalist For AL Cy Young Award

The MLB released the finalists for the American League Cy Young Award Tuesday, among the list was Oakland A's starter Sonny Gray.

He will have some tough competition for the prestigious award, as Toronto Blue Jays' Davis Price and the Houston Astros' Dallas Keuchel are the remaining finalists. The winner will be announced Wednesday, Nov. 18 at 6 p.m. ET.

Gray, 26, played in his second full season with the A's last season, posting a 14-7 record with a 2.73 ERA, 169 strikeouts and 59 walks. While those numbers were clearly the best on the A's, he will be up against superb seasons from Keuchel and Price.

Price, who was traded from the Detroit Tigers to the Toronto Blue Jays at the trade deadline over the summer, had a combined 18-5 record with a 2.45 ERA with 225 strikeouts and just 49 walks. His WAR was an impressive 5.9 for the entire season.

The final contender, Keuchel, has perhaps the best shot at the award. His 20 wins were best in the AL, and his 2.48 ERA and 219 strikeouts are pretty attractive as well. His WAR was 7.2 last season - tops of all AL pitchers.
