SoCal Officer Recovering After Being Struck By DUI Suspect

ORANGE, Calif. (AP) -- Officials in the city of Orange say a police officer's condition is improving after he was critically injured by a suspected drunken driver while responding to a call.

The Orange Police Department said Sunday that the officer, who suffered major trauma to his legs and pelvis, is stable in intensive care.

Officials say while he shows improvement, the officer is expected to face a long recovery process.

He was struck by a 2016 Hyundai while standing outside of his patrol car early Saturday.

Police arrested 27-year-old Ashley V. Bertolino on suspicion of DUI. It wasn't immediately known if she has an attorney.
