Snowy Conditions Bring Traffic Tie-Ups To Interstate 80

NYACK (CBS13) — Interstate 80 was closed in both directions on Friday after a semi jackknifed during a late season storm.

The California Highway Patrol says there have been multiple accidents and spinouts due to wet and unsafe conditions with snow covering Sierra roads.

With heavy downpours and thunderstorms, travelers making their way up the mountain were forced to sit in major traffic due to multiple spinouts, a jackknifed big rig and other weather-related accidents.

As traffic snarled from Truckee to Nyack, some people got out of their cars to take pictures of the May snowfall.

Caltrans says many drivers were not prepared for the wintry blast and didn't carry chains. Others were certainly not dressed for the heavy downpours or snow.
