Smoke From Athens Fire Prompting 911 Calls; Fire At 150 Acres
5:50 p.m. UPDATE: Cal Fire pegs the fire at 150 acres and says it's in the mop-up phase.
Latest estimate is the #AthensFire in Placer County burned 150 acres. Still 50% contained. Crews mopping up & extinguishing hot spots.

5:15 p.m. UPDATE: Forward progress on the vegetation portion of the fire has been stopped. The fire is at 100 acres and 50 percent containment. The focus is now on the industrial area where vehicles caught fire.

PLACER COUNTY (CBS13) — Smoke from a fire in Placer County is prompting many 911 calls from Rocklin.
The smoke from the 80-acre fire can be seen from Downtown Sacramento, but it's carrying into Rocklin. The fire is 25 percent contained.
The Athens Fire has crossed into an industrial area on Cincinnati Avenue, causing darker smoke in the area. The fire has stayed north of West Sunset Boulevard.

Cal Fire spokesman Daniel Berlant says there is a lot of dry grass in the area, and winds from the northwest are giving it a bump.

Concerned residents are calling 911 to the point that dispatchers want people to know they know about the smoky smell and not to call 911.
