PLACER COUNTY (CBS13) — Smoke from a fire in Placer County is prompting many 911 calls from Rocklin.

The smoke from the 80-acre fire can be seen from Downtown Sacramento, but it's carrying into Rocklin. The fire is 25 percent contained.

The Athens Fire has crossed into an industrial area on Cincinnati Avenue, causing darker smoke in the area. The fire has stayed north of West Sunset Boulevard.

Cal Fire spokesman Daniel Berlant says there is a lot of dry grass in the area, and winds from the northwest are giving it a bump.

Concerned residents are calling 911 to the point that dispatchers want people to know they know about the smoky smell and not to call 911.
