Small Sacramento Church Sending Massive Aid To Help Liberia Ebola Outbreak

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A small Sacramento church is making a massive effort to help Liberians suffering in the Ebola outbreak that has claimed more than 7,000 lives in the country.

Boxes of life-saving medical supplies will soon be on their way to the Ebola-ravaged country from Sacramento's Friends In Jesus International Church.

"It was an ambitious project we undertook, and it proved pretty successful," said Pastor Tim Wulah. "It's very emotional, because most of us lost loved ones so this has become something we are passionate about."

Non-church members came just to lend a hand. Herb Klar served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Liberia decades ago.

"I'm just helping out wherever I can, hauling boxes, documenting packages that are going over," he said.

After the church put out a call for help in August, the boxes of donations started rolling in. Now they're being stacked in a giant container. The next stop is a Houston port, before a long ship ride to Liberia.

"Our prayer is once it gets there, it gets in the right hands," Wulah said.
