Body Found In Wreckage Of Lincoln Plane That Crashed In Castro Valley

ALAMEDA COUNTY (CBS13) — Authorities confirm the wreckage of a small plane found today in Alameda County is that of an aircraft that left this morning from Lincoln, according to an Alameda County Fire Department statement.

The fire department also says a body has been found in the wreckage, but have not confirmed it is that of pilot John Sacco. Sacco's family told KPIX-TV in San Francisco he was piloting the aircraft when it went down.

Air traffic controllers lost contact with the pilot of a Piper PA-32 single-engine plane at about 11:30 a.m., KPIX-TV reports. The plane was on its way from Placer County to Oakland, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The plane was about 10 miles east of Oakland International Airport when contact was lost, FAA officials said. An Alameda County Fire Department official says Sacco reported to air traffic having engine trouble.

The Alameda County Fire Department confirmed the aircraft was found off of Palomares Road in Castro Valley.

Numerous agencies helped  find the plane.

During the search, two members of the Alameda County Fire Department were injured. Their injuries are non-life threatening, according to a department statement.
