Small Plane Crashes In Marin County; Pilot Found Dead

NOVATO, Calif. (AP) — Sheriff's officials in Marin County have found the wreckage of a small plane that apparently crashed near Novato after reporting engine trouble.

KTVU-TV reports searchers located the aircraft Tuesday morning.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor says the pilot of the single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza reported engine trouble about 9:30 p.m. Monday after taking off from San Carlos.

The pilot indicated that he would try to make it to Gnoss Field in Novato. Air traffic controllers lost radar and radio contact with the plane shortly after that.

Marin County Sheriff's Office says the pilot was found dead in the wreckage, KPIX-TV reports.

Search crews spent much of the night searching for the plane west of Novato.

Gregor says it's believed the pilot was the only person on board. There's no word on the status of the pilot.

The plane was on its way to Brookings, Oregon.
