Skydiver Dies After Possible Parachute Malfunction Near Lodi

LODI (CBS13/AP) - Authorities say a skydiver has died after crashing against a wall next a road near the Lodi Airport.

The San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office says deputies were called to the scene at the parachute jump center at Lodi Airport Saturday.

Deputies do not know if the accident was caused by a malfunctioning parachute or the operator. They say the person hit a cinder block that wraps around a neighborhood and fell into a drainage ditch.

Other Lodi skydiviers say the accident will not stop them, but will keep the family in their prayers.

"I want to send my condolences out to the family. It's a very unfortunate event," said skydiver Nikco Sterling.

The FAA has been brought in to investigate.

No information about the skydiver has been released.
