Sierra Snow Returns After Weeks Of Above-Normal Temperatures

DONNER LAKE (CBS13) — After weeks of very un-February weather, it's been snowing in the Sierra all day on Thursday.

Whiteout conditions near Donner Lake left many drivers struggling to get up the road.

For truck driver Casaer Vaal, navigating slushy streets is uncharted territory.

"I've been in Nevada before and well, this is my second time. It's kind of scary but I have to do it for life," he said.

"If you come up and you're well prepared, we're gonna get you through no problem," said Caltrans spokesman Dave Wood.

The higher the elevation, the higher the snow.

And even in sunny spots, Wood warns drivers to stay cautious.

"Know how to put chains on before it starts snowing because it's not going to be any easier when it's cold, dark and wet," he said.
