Sierra Ski Resort Using Recycled Water In Its Snowmaking

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Frolic in it, ski in it, and make snowmen and snow angels, but just don't eat it.

A Sierra ski resort will be using recycled water to make snow this year.

Starting in December, Soda Springs Ski Resort will use water provided by Donner Summit Public Utility District for snowmaking. In a statement on Tuesday, the district said it wrapped up a $24 million project in June to convert its water purification process from chlorination/de-chlorination to a UV disinfection process.

The result? Highly treated, pathogen-free, crystal-clear recycled water.

The State Water Board says recycled water is safe for approved non-potable uses, and strongly supports recycled water as a safe alternative to using raw and potable water supplies.
