Sheriff's Sergeant Charged With Sexual Battery

EUREKA, Calif. (AP) -- A Northern California sheriff's sergeant is accused of sexual battery against two women while on duty.

The Humboldt County District Attorney's office charged 41-year-old Jason Scott Daniels on Thursday with sexual battery and sexual penetration by a foreign object. The Times-Standard of Eureka reports that Daniels is scheduled to be arraigned on Oct. 30.

Daniels, a former sergeant with the Humboldt County Sheriff Department, is accused of touching the women while unlawfully restraining them. According to court documents, one of the women accused him of propositioning her. He was arrested last year.

Assistant District Attorney Kelly Neel told the Times-Standard she could not comment on the length of time it took to charge Daniels or the investigation. A woman who picked up the phone at a listing for Daniels said he had no comment.
