Sheriff: Pollock Pines Man Put Up Fight After New Year's Day Pursuit

EL DORADO COUNTY (CBS13) — A Pollock Pines man was arrested after trying to elude police on a New Year's Day pursuit.

Ryan Maurer, 40 is accused of leading a pursuit from Sacramento County to El Dorado County at the Cameron Park Drive onramp on Highway 50.

El Dorado County Sheriff's deputies say after they set up a perimeter, a deputy spotted a man matching the description of the suspect walking out of the bushes and ordered him to stop. The man ignored him, prompting the deputy to draw his Taser and ask him again to stop. The suspect reportedly responded by stopping, turning around and spitting at the deputy.

Additional deputies were able to take the suspect into custody after a struggle involving the suspect trying to pull away from the handcuffs and kicking at the deputies. He was placed in a leg restraint and a mask.

He was booked on felony evasion charges, though it's not clear what started the initial pursuit.
