ANDERSON – A Sacramento resident was killed and two others were hurt in an early morning crash near Redding on Tuesday.

California Highway Patrol says the Jeep the Sacramento residents were in was speeding on northbound Interstate 5 near Balls Ferry Road in Anderson when it rear-ended a sedan around 1:30 a.m.

The impact sent the Jeep into the guardrail and then down a steep embankment.

Officers say the driver of the Jeep was a 25-year-old Sacramento man. He suffered fatal injuries in the crash, CHP says.

The two other people who were in the Jeep were a 16-year-old and an 18-year-old, also both from Sacramento. Their injuries were described by CHP as minor to major.

The sedan driver's injuries were said to be minor.

Anderson is a Shasta County town about 12 miles south of Redding and 150 miles north of Sacramento.
