Serena Williams Rolls To US Open Quarters

NEW YORK (AP) — Serena Williams reached her first Grand Slam quarterfinal of the year, defeating Kaia Kenepi 6-3, 6-3 Monday and keeping alive her hopes for a third straight U.S. Open title.

The top-seeded Williams lost in the fourth round of the Australian Open, the second round of the French Open and third round of Wimbledon. She said she felt the pressure of getting to the quarters of Flushing Meadows.

Williams won her first 12 service points against Kenepi, a 50th-ranked player from Estonia. Williams next plays 11th-seeded Flavia Pennetta, a 7-5, 6-2 winner over 29th-seeded Casey Dellacqua.
