Security Guard Attacked At Sacramento Sutter Health Parking Garage

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) —  Police are investigating an attack on a security guard at a parking garage on Sutter Health property.

"I always feel comfortable coming here," said Annie Hooten who frequently visits her doctor on L Street, but the attack has raised her concerns. "Makes me sad to think about it."

Police said the security guard was checking on a suspicious man on the third floor when he was brutally attacked Monday just after 4 p.m.

"We do take these sort of allegations and reports very seriously and we're currently working through the process of trying to identify any potential witnesses or other information that might lead us to make an arrest,"said Officer Matt McPhail with Sacramento Police Department.

The parking attendant was there when it happens and said the guard is expected to be OK.

There are security cameras, but Sutter Health hasn't been able to obtain the video for police and today released this statement:

"The safety and security of our patients, their families and our staff is our first priority. We have specific security measures at our doctors' office and will continue to enhance and update them," said

Neighbors in the area say it's a shame the man was beaten up for just doing his job.

"Respect is due to him. A lot of other people would just let it go, but at least he was trying to be in the face of wrong," said Brian Coffelt who also lives in East Sacramento.

As for Annie Hooten, she'll be back and hopes police catch the attacker.

"I think about it, but it won't stop me for coming. I feel safe to come here because it seems like it's very secure," she said.

If you have information, call police.
