Second Accidental Shooting Wounds Fresno Sheriff's Deputy

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a Fresno County Sheriff's Deputy has accidentally shot himself in the leg while preparing to join a law enforcement operation.

Fresno Police Lt. Joe Gomez tells the Fresno Bee the deputy's wound is not life-threatening.

Gomez says the deputy was putting his leg holster on when his gun went off, shooting the 10-year veteran in the lower leg. The deputy has not been identified.

He is the second Fresno County deputy accidentally shot this week.

On Monday, Sgt. Rod Lucas was fatally shot by a fellow deputy. Lucas was at a sheriff's office near the Fresno Yosemite International Airport with three other people when the shot was fired.

Three different agencies are investigating the accidental shooting death of the 20-year veteran.
