Now, police are searching for a man that was caught on surveillance camera earlier Wednesday.

The typically quiet and safe Rocklin neighborhood quickly turned into a crime scene.

Rocklin police say around 6 a.m., a man broke into a home on Tammarack Drive and Sierra Meadows and sexually assaulted a woman while she was alone in the home.

"She woke up with this man standing over her while she was sleeping," said Rocklin Police Department Lt. Scott Horrillo.

Police believe the suspect got in the house through a sliding glass door. Sometime after the alleged assault, the cameras at St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic Church captured a photo of him.

Women living nearby, including Sara Myers, who grew up in the area, area left shaken and in shock.

"Horrific. That's why we always keep a wooden block in our sliding glass door just in case, and I always double-check," Myers said.

While police say this type of crime is rare in Rocklin, they're working to find this man before he strikes again and are asking the public to be extra vigilant.

"At night, lock your doors, and windows, and keep your house well lit on the inside," Horrillo said.

It's something you never want to hear happen anywhere, but especially not where you live. Neighbors say they are hopeful the suspect is caught and the victim can find peace.
