Search On After WWI-Era Cannon Goes Missing

RICHMOND, Calif. (AP) -- Police are looking for a group of thieves caught on surveillance video stealing a World War I-era cannon from the Veteran's Hall in Richmond.

KNTV-TV reports that surveillance cameras captured the theft on May 1, when vendors were setting up the city's Cinco de Mayo festival. The suspects can be seen pulling into the parking lot, cutting the cannon's chain and towing the 1-ton weapon away.

Investigators say the thieves may plan to melt the metal down, though the historic weapon is worth more than its weight in brass and iron.
