Search For Men Missing On Folsom Lake Scaled Back

FOLSOM (CBS13) – Authorities have announced that they are scaling back the search effort for four men who went missing when their boat capsized on Folsom Lake over the weekend.

Vicky Waters, Deputy Director of Public Affairs for California State Parks, said that the search effort has been scaled back due to resources being exhausted. Crews have been scouring the lake using sonar and with divers but have had no luck in locating the men.

Daily boat patrols will continue, Waters said, and helicopters are on call.

The men have been missing since early Saturday afternoon; they are presumed dead, authorities have said.

Fishermen have told CBS13 that water releases from Folsom Dam are making currents stronger, complicating search efforts. High winds over the weekend also created choppy waters, forcing crews to abandon search efforts early into the men's disappearance.

The missing men have been identified as: 54-year-old Toby Strauch, 53-year-old Jake Jacobs, 48-year-old Jon Smith and 47-year-old James Strauch. All the men are said to be from the Sacramento region.
