Fiery crash off Highway 20 in Nevada County leaves 1 dead

NEVADA COUNTY – An investigation is underway after a fiery crash east of Nevada City that left a driver dead early Thursday morning.

California Highway Patrol said, around 4 a.m., they got a report about a crash on eastbound Highway 20 east of Scotts Flat Road.

Officers believe a vehicle was speeding when it veered off the road and crashed into a tree.

The vehicle then caught fire, officers said.

One person died in the crash, CHP confirmed. No information about that person's identity has been released at this point in the investigation.
