Scam Alert: Man Claims To Be Collecting Money For Injured Sacramento Firefighters

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Authorities are asking area residents to be on the lookout for a scammer claiming to be collecting money for injured firefighters.

The scammer looks to be trying to take advantage of the recent incident where three Sacramento Fire Department firefighters were injured while battling a house fire. Two have the firefighters have since been released from the UC Davis Medical Center burn unit, while the third remains hospitalized.

Saturday, both the Sacramento Police Department and the Sacramento Fire Department issued warnings about a man calling people asking for donations for a burn charity.

Sacramento Fire Department notes that the Firefighter's Burn Institute never makes cold calls for donations.

No victims of the scam have come forward, Sacramento Police say.
