Saturated Ground And High Winds Knock Down Trees

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Large trees were no match for high winds and saturated ground this morning as they toppled onto property and led to power outages and traffic delays.

In one Elverta neighborhood, part of a tree in the front yard of John and Sarah Nelson home broke off at 3 a.m. and hit their home. They sent us a picture and asked us to come by. After we arrived, the rest of the tree came crashing down, narrowly missing the neighbor's house and cars and landing on a much smaller tree, which may have helped to minimize damage.

On Mira Del Rio Drive in Sacramento and 80-foot-tall tree came crashing down on a house. None of the three people in the house were hurt.

A tree fell across 59th Street in Sacramento, hitting a car and blocking traffic. The car may be a complete loss.

Power lines came down in front of Glenwood Elementary in Stockton, forcing it to go on lockdown. Crews had to close traffic on both sides of N. Alpine Road as crews worked to repair the lines.

In the Rosemont area of Sacramento a 70-year-old cedar tree came down on Trujillo. It damaged a car, but no one was hurt.

A large tree fell toppled onto power lines on Dry Creek Road and Parkway Drive in Auburn. It happened at 6 a.m. The tree fell down and hit a power pole, causing it to catch fire. Sparking lines were knocked down on the roadway.
