Santa Rosa Police Shoot Teen Pointing Replica Gun, Discover Suicide Note

SANTA ROSA, Calif. (AP) - Northern California police officers say they shot and injured a 15-year-old suicidal boy who pointed a replica handgun at them.

Santa Rosa Police say officers responded to a 911 call of a man with a gun in a city park shortly before midnight Monday. The first officer on the scene encountered the boy, who briefly got down on the ground before rising up again and pointing the replica handgun at the officer. While taking cover, the officer fired several shots at the teen, striking him once in the foot.

Officers say the boy had a suicide note saying he wanted police to kill him. Officers also say he made the initial call to 911.

The boy is receiving psychiatric care and is expected to recover.
