San Francisco Saying Goodbye To Candlestick Park

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - San Francisco is saying goodbye to the stadium where its beloved Giants and 49ers celebrated some of their greatest triumphs.

Beatles icon Paul McCartney is scheduled to play a concert at Candlestick Park on Thursday night that is expected to be the last event at the stadium before it is demolished to make way for a planned housing, retail and entertainment development.

The Stick opened more than 50 years ago and served as home field for the 49ers and Giants. The 49ers will play at a new stadium about 45 miles south starting this year.

The Giants played their last game at Candlestick in September 1999.

San Francisco police say anyone caught taking chairs or any other mementos from the stadium during Thursday's concert could face vandalism charges.
