Sacramento Republic vs San Jose Earthquakes At Kezar Stadium

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS13) — The Sacramento Republic will face a stiff test against the San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday in the fourth round of the US Open Cup.

The USL Professional Republic will face the Major League Soccer team at 7:30 p.m. at Kezar Stadium.

The US Open Cup was founded 100 years ago and features teams from both the MLS and lower-level teams. Each round brings a higher level of competition, with MLS teams joining in this round.

The Republic pummeled the Fresno Fuego of the USL Premier Development League 6-0 on May 28 in the third round to advance.

The game comes at a time when the Republic are riding high. The team is currently on a six-game unbeaten streak and is set to open its new venue next week at Cal Expo. Bonney Field features far fewer seats than the Republic's temporary home at Hughes Stadium where the team shattered USL PRO regular season records.

Tickets for the rest of the season's regular season games at Bonney Field go on sale to the public on Thursday.
