Sacramento Police Warn Thieves Targeting Asians Who Don't Speak English

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — He walked away a winner, but someone was watching and targeted the prize for his winning hands.

Sacramento Police say this casino winner's misfortune isn't an isolated incident.

Yunlong Huang, 65 was a big winner after 20 minutes of Pai-Gow at the Lotus Casino on Sacramento's Stockton Boulevard. Then he lost it all.

Huang who speaks Chinese, but little English, was robbed by three men in his own driveway. Police believe they cased him at the cardroom, then followed him two miles as he drove home where they threatened him with a club when he opened his door.

They say he's the latest victim in a string of crimes targeting the non-English speaking Asian community in the region, possibly because they carry lots of cash and won't report the crimes.

The Police issued an alert in March identifying areas of Avondale, Fruitridge Manor, Southeast Village and Glen Elder. The areas had an increase in home robberies targeting Asians as they returned home and were exiting vehicles.
