After 9-Hour Standoff, Suspected Car Thief Surrenders To Sacramento Police

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A suspected car thief surrendered to police in the early-morning hours of Tuesday after a nine-hour standoff.

Police say it started at around 6 p.m. on Monday when the man stole a car near Freeport Boulevard. Officers chased him into East Sacramento.

Overnight, they kept up a half-block perimeter near the old cannery, just past the McKinley Village construction project. About 30 officers, a robot a helicopter and police dogs were out at the scene.

Police say the suspect may be on parole and was seen leaving his vehicle, possibly with a weapon. Police had five negotiators on scene.

A nearby children's dance studio was briefly on lockdown with dozens of kids inside. They got out OK.
