Sacramento Man Bears Colbert Name Burden But He's Not Curt About Colbert
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Before Stephen Colbert was crowned the new king of late night and before his Comedy Central show, he pronounced his name Col-BARE.
But that's caused a bit of a problem for a Sacramento area businessman. The air conditioning sales expert's friendly demeanor helps him keep his cool as he tells customers what he told us:
"My name's Col-BERT," he said.
The T is not silent in David Colbert's name, and neither is he.
"That's my Irish heritage, and that's what I'm stickin' to," he said.
It's also what the comedian stuck to for years before deciding to change his name just as he was entering college. His father had always wanted to change it, but as Stephen Colbert put it, "He lacked the pretentious gene that I have."
Chances are with the rise in popularity of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, the sales expert will have more corrections in his future.
