Sacramento Light Rail Shooting Doesn't Deter Riders From Commute

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Light-rail riders were back on board Friday as many worried for their safety less than a day after the first fatal shooting on board a Regional Transit train.

A man in his 50s was shot and killed Thursday night while riding a train near 11th and O streets in Downtown Sacramento.

Officers arrested Lynnsey Braun and charged him with murder.

"There was some conversation between the two," said Lt. Norm Leong with RT police. "We don't know what that conversation was, so we don't know what prompted and motivated it."

Leong says there are still questions about the shooting, despite it being caught on camera. He says the suspect and the unnamed victim got on at different stops. Two other passengers were in the train car at the time of the shooting, but were not hurt.

The bizarre shooting left riders feeling uneasy, but they say they generally feel safe on board.

Leong says the 27 officers and 100 guards assigned to RT keep violent crime to a minimum, and that they will be reviewing procedures in light of this case.
