Sacramento Kings Offering Season Ticket Holders A Virtual Look At Golden 1 Center

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — One of the biggest challenges for Sacramento Kings officials is selling something that doesn't even exist.

The Golden 1 Center isn't slated to open until fall of 2016, but the push is on now to get season ticket holders on board.

All of the suites in the new arena have been sold out, as well as the junior suites the Kings are calling the Lofts. Most season ticket holders are lining up to renew, and the Kings Experience Center is a big reason why.

At an open house, if you will, for some of the faithful fans, it's not just a case of picking a section and going with it. They're following a sales pitch into a virtual world that shows what their window into the arena would look like from inside and out.

Phil Horn, the vice president of ticket sales and service, knows he holds in his hands the highest of high-tech stuff—an augmented reality version of the new arena. The Oculus Rift experience puts season ticket holders right inside one of the lounges set aside for season ticket holders.

The Kings were the first sports franchise to offer the look and now other teams want a peek at what they're up to.
