Sacramento High School Student Wounded In Drive-By Shooting

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A high school student who was shot as he walked across a South Sacramento street near his campus is in the hospital.

School staff were the first to jump into action to help treat his bullet wounds as he went to the campus for help.

Police say an 18-year-old student was hit twice by bullets in a drive-by shooting while walking with friends near the Sacramento Academic and Vocational Academy. After getting hit, he ran back to school for help through a business park, leaving a trail of blood from the crime scene to the school.

Student Elaina Patterson was inside her class.

"They told everybody to go to the back of the room, so we couldn't really see nothing," she said. "I just seen his face and then everybody started panicking."

A school staff member was treated for a panic attack.

The student with the gunshots received immediate care inside the school, treated by teachers in a vocational nurse program.
