Sacramento Food Truck Owner Leaving State Over Bureaucratic Problems

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A Sacramento small-business owners says she's leaving town and blaming bureaucracy for her decision to move out of the state.

Granola Girl and Sacramento native Saba Rahimian says she's heading to Austin, Texas.

"For the time being I need to move on and continue to support my business," she said.

She says trying to start her business here has been nuts, and calls the Sacramento permit process a recipe for disaster.

"That push-pull was really hurting my business and my ability to thrive or even survive here," she said.

Her concept was a health-food truck that could be stationed at a former house where she built a commercial kitchen as a food prep hub.

"Because it's never been done, really the biggest issue that I had was that there were constant new regulations being brought in my direction," she said.

A Sacramento city spokesperson responded to the move with a statement, saying, "This is a unique case in which the initial plan for the business was not a food truck, instead a business to be run out of a home and to be turned into a commercial restaurant. There was community opposition to the business being run in a residential area."
