Sacramento Dentist Exposed In Call Kurtis Investigation Sentenced

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A Sacramento dentist exposed in a Call Kurtis investigation for performing root canals on patients who didn't need them is off to federal prison.

Dr. David Lewis was sentenced to three years and 10 months in prison.

Lewis ran a practice on Marconi Avenue in Sacramento and was accused of taking advantage of workers, especially UPS workers who had 100 percent dental coverage. He made a lot of money off of unnecessary procedures and work he never did, but still billed insurance.

Joan Mitchell Love and her husband Ralph said at the time that Lewis ruined their smiles and left holes in their mouths.
