Sacramento County partially closes several roads due to flooding; 1 driver rescued

Driver rescued from high waters in Sacramento County

A Sacramento County driver had to be rescued on Sunday after flooding caused several roads to be closed, the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District said.

Just after 11 a.m., the Sacramento County Department of Transportation closed parts of Sorento Road, Kiefer Boulevard and Scott Road due to flooding.

  • Sorento Road was closed between Elverta and Rio Linda roads
  • Kiefer Boulevard was closed from Jackson Road, Highway 16, to Kiefer Landfill
  • Scott Road was closed between Boys Ranch and Latrobe roads

Around 1:50 p.m., Metro Fire said crews were working to rescue a driver who got stuck in the area of Kiefer Boulevard and Jackson Road. The driver was safely rescued, but their vehicle will stay in the flooded roadway, between the road closures, until the water subsides.

Metro Fire said they want to remind the community not to cross roads that are blocked with signage.

The Department of Transportation did not list an estimated time of reopening and advised drivers to call 311 if they see flooded roads.
