Sacramento City Councilman Proposes Portable Solution For Homeless Crisis

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Sacramento City Councilman Jeff Harris is proposing movable, stackable metal homes as a solution to Sacramento's housing crisis.

The steel-framed units are 160 square feet and include a bathroom, closet, kitchen, and bed.

Harris says he's talked with the owner of "Panoramic Interests" that designed the units, and took a tour in a model.

Harris wants to lease the units.

"The beauty of this is that we can do it quickly," Harris said. "If we tried to develop a regular housing development that process takes a couple years."

The homes are manufactured in China.

Harris hopes to introduce the plans to the full city council soon.
