Sacramento City Council To Vote On Surge Pricing For Parking Around New Arena

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Thursday, Sacramento's city council will vote on a plan to raise parking rates around the new Kings arena, but only during big events.

The city says drivers can expect a surge in parking rates in downtown Sacramento around Golden 1 Center.

The city is paving the way for dynamic pricing at parking meters – which means when big events happen, the meters will charge you more for parking.

"You can slowly see the buildup of cars parking on the street. Usually we can just come in and park and do our walk and get on with our life, but now we're finding it more difficult to find parking – and if we have to pay for that I'm going to be really mad," said resident Danny Chuong.

Organizers expect around 200 new events at the Golden 1 Center.
