Ryan Roberts Found Guilty In Death Of Jessica Funk-Haslam

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Ryan Roberts, the man accused of killing a 13-year-old girl in a Rosemont park, has been found guilty of first-degree murder.

The trial of Ryan Roberts officially began three years after investigators discovered 13-year-old Jessica Funk-Haslam's body stabbed, choked and beaten to death in a Rosemont community park. Investigators say DNA found on cigarette butts at the crime scene matched Roberts' from a previous arrest. The district attorney said DNA gathered from a previous incident led them to Roberts.

CBS13 spoke exclusively to Roberts' estranged wife, who did not want to be identified. She says it was back in May that Roberts became jealous and attacked and raped her.

"He was grabbing my neck, and trying to break it military-style."

Despite it all, his wife is unsure if her husband is a killer.

"I hope it's not him, but whoever it is, I hope they are found."

His mother, Tammy Roberts, broke her silence back in August, two years after he was arrested.

"I've been waiting for two years to tell you what I've known all along; my son, Ryan Roberts has been wrongly accused of a horrible crime: the murder of a young girl," she said.
