Roseville's Sammy's Rockin' Island Bar & Grill Reopening

ROSEVILLE (CBS13) – Officials are announcing that Sammy's Rockin' Island Bar & Grill is scheduled to reopen.

The restaurant has been closed since Nov. 2013 after co-owner Steve Pease went missing. Pease's body was later found near the shore along Highway 1 in Mendocino County, leaving the fate of his restaurant up in the air.

But, according to a release from the Roseville Community Development Corporation (RCDC), the restaurant is now scheduled to reopen come fall.

The RCDC says they were able to take control of the building that houses the restaurant back on April 17, clearing the way for a new lease agreement to be signed with members of Sammy Hagar's family. The restaurant carries the famous musician's name.

"There was immense interest in this location from strong entertainment restaurateurs from the very beginning of this process. They clearly saw the potential in downtown Roseville," said Chris Robles, CEO of RCDC. "Reopening the restaurant with Sammy was always our first choice."

As previously reported by CBS13 in late 2013, RCDC had given Pease a $1.5 million loan to create the restaurant. After Pease's death, the RCDC foreclosed on the place to regain control of the property.

Downtown Roseville businesses owners told CBS13 that they were relying on Sammy's to breathe new life into the area.

A teaser video previewing the restaurant's return features Sammy Hagar himself.

"Sammy Hagar here," Hagar says in the video."And I wanted to let you know that we haven't gone anywhere and we have some exciting news for you. So stay tuned."

A set date for the restaurant's reopening has not been released.
