ROSEVILLE (CBS13) – Police are asking residents to be on the lookout for a man suspected of stealing a car then trying to run over an officer.

The incident happened Friday just after 1 a.m., Roseville Police say. Officers were called to the 700 block of Vallejo Avenue on a report that someone had broken into an apartment and stole a car.

Officers arrived just in time to spot the car – a white Volkswagen Beetle – being driven away.

Police say that the suspect – identified as 61-year-old Daniel Rosario – aimed the car at an officer, forcing that officer to open fire on the car. Police do not know if Rosario was injured in the shooting.

The car was later found near Sawtell Road and Hemphill Way, but the suspect was nowhere in sight. A search of the neighborhood also proved fruitless.

Anyone who sees Rosario is asked to call Roseville Crime Stoppers at (916) 783-7867.
