Roseville Neighbors Speak Out Against Sex Offender Living In Neighborhood At Meeting
ROSEVILLE (CBS13) — A heated crowd of Roseville neighbors say their fight isn't over after a violent sexual predator moved in next door.
William Stephenson was convicted twice of sexual assaults against women in El Dorado County, but now, years later, he's living in a quiet Roseville neighborhood.
While his convictions were in El Dorado County, a judge looked at his address of record prior, which was in Roseville. That's why he ended up in the city.
Roseville neighbors took on city leaders and others in charge of the fate of the 58-year-old on Monday.
"If you try to build a gazebo in your backyard without a permit from the city they are going to be all over you, but for some reason you can have a violent sex offender, in some sort of a pseudo facility," one neighbor said.
Police Chief Daniel Hahn, Stephenson's attorney and a representative from the company in charge of his reintegration detailed the strict rules the convicted sex offender must obey. He will be under 24-hour GPS monitoring, and he's not allowed public or private beaches or pools, as well as state or public parks.
But not everyone is so convinced or relieved by the precautions.
